Bike To Work & School Week 2018 – GoByBike

This year Bike To Work Week & Bike To School, which will go as GoByBike Week, will be held in Powell River from May 28 – June 3, 2018. Time to dust off your bike!

To participate, please start rounding up as many co-workers as possible. Also, we invite all schools and teachers to participate as well. We’d like to challenge local businesses and organizations to record their KMs and let’s see who can bike the most during BTWW!

In its inaugural BTWW in 2014, Powell River had

149 Total Riders
15 Total Teams
56 New Riders
38/62 % Female/Male
4,376 Total Kms Cycled
131,294 Calories Burned
949 Kg GHGs Saved

Let’s see if we can start a “chain reaction” and beat last year’s record!

For more information about how to register for BTWW as a team or an individual go to www.biketowork.ca.

Organizing is well under way! This year, we will have several “Celebration Stations” to help everyone celebrate the multitude of personal benefits that go along with regular cycling: health, wellness and fun. Be on the look out for these stations throughout the week where you can stop in for a snack and coffee, maybe win a prize or possibly get your bike checked!

If you would like to get involved as a sponsor, participant or volunteer, please contact Kerry Jones at kandrjones1@gmail.com

The Powell River Cycling Association will be hosting its ninth annual  ‘Bike to Work and School Week this year. Last year we had 357 participants registered and 61 teams. There were 176 new riders!

Beginning this year, the Bike to Work BC website will have a fresh new look. The society will be called GoByBikeBC. As in past years, the last week in May (May 28- June 3 ) has been chosen to encourage people to choose their bicycles to commute to work or school. This year, as the new name suggests, people are also encouraged to use their bicycle as their mode of transport to meetings, appointments, the grocery store or anywhere that they might have otherwise driven their car in the past. Our event plan this year reflects that change. On Tuesday May 29 from 1000-1130, you can ride to the library celebration station, then, from 5-7p.m., there is a Toonie Tuesday ride to Townsite Brewery. Thursday May 31, ride to Tim Horton’s from 1000 to 1130 for coffee and snacks from Tim’s. On Friday, the First Credit Union will be putting on a pancake breakfast from 0730-0845

It’s easy to register. Just go to the website; www.biketowork.ca/powell-river, fill in the registration information, then log your kilometers cycled during the week and you will be entered to win a cycling trip in Portugal, courtesy of Exodus Travel, plus other great prizes. You can register as part of a team or as an individual, just go out and Bike It. You’ll Love It!
